What if I told you that a photographer’s number one job isn’t to take photos, but to make your day easier? Mine is. I’ll say it again – my number one job isn’t to take photos, but to make your day easier. One of the biggest compliments I get from clients is when they tell me how much they appreciate how unobtrusive and easy going I am on their wedding day. This is my goal every time! I want to not only capture your special moments, but from the first point of contact, to also create an experience that allows you to thoroughly enjoy your day. For this reason, I always recommend getting engagement photos taken before your big day.

Let’s take a look at some of the ways an engagement photo shoot can benefit you:

• No pressure – There’s no pressure in doing an engagement session because there is no wedding date attached to it.

• Shake the awkwardness – The engagement session is especially useful to couples who never had, or aren’t used to having their photos taken professionally (especially BY A STRANGER!). It’s a great time for you and your fiance to get used to being in front of the camera together. As your photographer, I will likely provide feedback on some posing and techniques that will help you during the “big day”. As you look back at your wedding photos, the experience gained by the engagement shoot would have been totally worth it.

• Bridging the gap – Because of the pandemic, most of the time I only get to meet my clients in person at the point of their photoshoot. Despite technology’s best efforts, nothing can replace physical engagement (with all its nuances). An engagement shoot allows me to get to know you more and vice versa. It can be a nerve-wracking time when sitting down in front of a stranger and having their camera in your face. It’s important that you’re at ease, so that you can feel more like yourself, THEN we can start getting the best photographs possible.

In conclusion, engagement shoots are one of the best ways to prepare for the big day and it’s a chance for us to get to know you and we can learn how we work as a team. It’s also a great way for you to see how we will work with you on your wedding day.
